Dust & Microbiological Sampling

Dust & Microbiological Sampling

ACOP5 (41&42) relating to regulation 5 of the Workplace (Health Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 makes specific reference for the need for regular maintenance including inspection and testing at suitable intervals with British Standard BS EN 15780, providing the benchmark to define cleanliness of Ductwork.

Dust, bacteria and yeast accumulate over time within ventilation systems causing contamination that affects the quality of air supplied to all building users. Pollutants can cause coughing, sneezing, dizziness, shortness of breath and even fevers, while excess chemicals in the air can lead to more serious respiratory problems and lung disease. They also exacerbate existing heart conditions.

What VHS do

Ventilation Hygiene Services highly trained and experienced staff can assist with the contamination testing and processes of the internal surfaces of ductwork. We provide you with recommendations for any remedial actions required, as well as on-going monitoring programs.

Preferred Vacuum Tests (PVT)

  • Using pre-weighed capsules, our team will collect dust samples from the internal surfaces of ductwork as recommended by BS EN 15780 and B&ES TR/19
  • Samples are sent to an independent UKAS accredited laboratory for analysis
  • A mean will be calculated from the results, per system to determine any action required

Microbiological Sampling

  • Using Dip slides, our team will collect surface samples in accordance with BS EN 15780 and B&ES TR/19 guidelines
  • Samples are sent to an independent UKAS accredited laboratory where they are analysed for harmful or pathogenic micro-organisms
  • Any action required is determined from the level of microbiological contamination
